Client's Say

"It was the first time I had the opportunity to sit myself in a "real" cockpit at the controls and I must admit that it was a really incredible experience. One of those that makes you think whether I should rethink my career."

Interview with Max Morgan

Interview with Max Morgan

I consider myself very fortunate with my job. I get to meet and fly with all sorts of people. Recently I had the pleasure of flying with Max Morgan. Max used to fly Lancaster Bombers for the Royal Australian Air Force's 460 Squadron. Max was stationed at RAF Binbrook in Lincolnshire after flying Wellingtons at an Operational Training Unit in Derby. Max and his brave crew flew their Lancaster into harm's way in the European theatre during World War II. Most of the time, 460 Squadron was conducting night bombing raids over Germany and France. I couldn't even begin to imagine what that must have been like.

Almost 30 years have passed, and on June 7th 2009, Max was back in the Captain's seat once again. This time, at the controls of the Boeing 737-800 flight simulator, and in much happier circumstances too. It was Max's 85th Birthday. Max told me that it felt good being behind the controls once again, even though finding the glass cockpit environment of the 737 overwhelming. The 737 cockpit is "out of this world", compared to the Lancaster, he said. Max chose to fly around scenic Hong Kong for his simulator session. So we loaded up on the runway and took off into the clear blue sky. Max flew the aircraft very competently I must say, and when I took him into old Kai Tak airport for the Checkerboard approach, he proved just how well an ex Lancaster Bomber Pilot can fly! He nailed the "Hong Kong Turn" and performed two very smooth touchdowns on Runway 13.

Max felt exhilarated after his flight in the simulator, and still talks about it enthusiastically, and constantly relives the experience by watching the dvd recording. "Anybody with an interest in flying, especially young people, should have a go at flying this simulator. It is a great opportunity to get the feel of flight" he said.

Max Morgan, we were honoured to have you aboard our flight simulator, and we also thank you and the rest of 460 Squadron for your service to your country, without which we wouldn't enjoy the freedoms we take for granted today.
